Oh hi, This week on The Boop Show we dig through mom’s pocketbook for money to spend on a trip back in time to a little place near and dear to our hearts. The arcade.

Brian – One half of the popular indie game genre Metroidvania, Metroid Dread is out there! Also, I have the Castlevania Collection loaded up and ready to play.
Discussion: I never remember what I say on stream.
Despot’s Game: Dystopian Army Builder (Oct 14, 2021)
DEVELOPER: Konfa Games / PUBLISHER: tinyBuild
Steam (demo available)
Despot’s Game is rogue-like tactics with turbo-charged battles. Build a team and sacrifice the heck out of them to rush through enemies… and other players!

Prepare to die, humans!
A group of people wake up in a strange post-apocalyptic labyrinth — naked, with no memories and with a bunch of weapons. Is this a joke, a crazy experiment, or… a game? You’ll find out soon enough, just try not to die first!
Get your pretzels ready
Your puny squad is capable of much more. Choose your loot and transform the squishy humans into wizards, cultists, ninjas and dozens of other heroes, including the mythical stale pretzel throwers. With perks and class combos, there are thousands of ways to build your army. The man-eating cabbage will appreciate the variety in its diet!
Settlement Survival (Oct 11, 2021)
DEVELOPER: Gleamer Studio / PUBLISHER: Gleamer Studio

In this ‘Banished’ inspired city-builder, lead a group of survivors in their search for a new home. Manipulate the landscape, manage limited supplies, plant crops, hunt wildlife, gather resources, and develop trade routes to build a bustling and unique town.

Experience all seasons and heed the early warning signs of disasters. Bunker down and protect your citizens from the elements as well as environmental disasters, or risk losing all that you’ve built.

DEVELOPER: Squidpunch Studios, Vincent Ltd

Me Playing – Do you think you could play the audio (at low volume) to the game when we play the video for the stream? It is muted enough that I think the podcast listeners would enjoy it as background music and may help set the mood.

Hey Scott. Have you ever wanted to own your own arcade?! Me too. So let’s see if I still want to after playing Arcade Tycoon: Simulation. A final early access release game that will be available on Steam this week. I was fortunate enough to recieve a game code from the developers so I could check it out a few days early. This arcade simulation management game takes its inspiration from games like Two Point Hospital and Prison Architect…2 games I loved. A pixel graphics game presented in a 2.5D isometric non-rotating view where you design and manage your arcade from a bare bones empty building to a fully decorated bustling NPC filled location with all the goings on and sounds of an arcade. An arcade that you are now responsible for from learning about your customers, managing your money, picking the games to place in your arcade, decorating and hiring staff. This is a location to location game when you play the campaign or you can sandbox this game with access to all the things. Decorations, Games, Entertainment, Staff, Drink Machine, Food Machines, Toilets….
Boop’s Patented 10 Point Rating System
Art/Animation: Appropriate Pixel Art for the time setting. Animation can be fun. Performers are pretty fun to watch.
Music/Effects: Music is fine. Effects are on point.
V/O: None
World Building: Sandboxed. Make your own back story.
Currency/Loot: Coins, Stars and Money! Unlock items to fill your arcade.
AI/NPCs: AI seems to work fine. The NPC random stats and backstories are pretty great. More variety would be nice.
Interface/HUD: A little busy. But Tycoon games often are. Lots of stats.
Replay/Endgame: No real endgame. Just replay until you are sick of it.
– Nostalgia hit. If you need it. Look at that carpet!
– Pretty deep sandbox
– Campaign mode is not great.
– Difficulty level means nothing
6.5 broken token machines out of 10 early accesses.
