HBO Promos ‘Love Child’ Documentary Exploring Gaming Addiction
When the infant of a South Korean couple addicted to online gaming died of malnutrition in 2010, the trial that followed was unprecedented. It was the first legal case that ever saw Internet addiction used as a defense.In HBO’s Love Child, which will premiere next Monday at 9 p.m. ET/PT as part of the network’s recently established documentary night, director Valerie Veatch uses the couple’s troubling story as a backdrop to explore gaming addiction, its pitfalls and causes.SEE ALSO: South Korea Proposes Curfew to Curb Online Gaming Addiction

T-Mobile CEO John Legere is also an executive producer on the documentary, but that doesn’t stop the doc from addressing the connection between increased mobility of games and the rise in addiction.

In Mashable’s exclusive sneak peek at Love Child, narrator Dr. Tak Woo, lead researcher at Serious Game Lab, says easy access to games via our smartphones is one reason for the rise of online gaming. Check out the video, above.
